Texture in this painting is key. In this piece I used, for the first time, a painting knife. I found it very entertaining to use. The smooth way it laid out the paint on the canvas, the unique straight and textured lines it made, and the way different colours mixed… simply having it as new tool in my arsenal made it so satisfying to use. In this piece I also really love the contrast between light and dark colours, the light sky and roses, and dark leaves. It turned out to be a magnificent gift and one of my favourite personal works.
